Sustainable University Graz
As the largest research and educational institution in the region, the University of Graz assumes responsibility for society and for shaping a future worth living in in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and university management. The principle of sustainability in its ecological, economic and social dimensions is trend-setting.
Excellent research creates the conditions for the development of innovative answers to regional and global challenges. Research-led teaching enables students to develop critical thinking and acquire essential skills in order to deal responsibly with change and seize opportunities for the benefit of all people.
In addition, the University of Graz, as one of the most important employers at the location, serves as a role model. Since 2016 it has been certified according to the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) (German only) . This means that it is committed to continuously improving its environmental performance: in teaching, in terms of energy and resource requirements, investment and construction, procurement, waste, mobility, training, participation and cooperation. The annual environmental statement (German only) provides information on activities, past performance and future goals. The University of Graz also sets an example through its numerous measures to promote equality in terms of gender and diversity and the compatibility of family and career, for which it has received many awards.
